I learned a new to me accordion book a few days ago. With the lovely Kiala Givehand of kialagivehand.com and Kristin Peterson of Altered States Studio https://www.alteredstatesstudio.com. Kristin was the Guest Teacher for Kiala's Free Monthly Artsy Meetup. The class was so much fun, and I enjoyed learning and creating a new accordion book. Thank you so much Kristin for sharing your time and talents with us! Both Kristin and Kiala teach various bookmaking classes that are easy, fun and beginner friendly. My accordion book is overflowing with layers of painted paper, painted fabric, and dyed fabric. What's the difference between painted fabric and dyed fabric? Ahhh that's a whole blogpost all by itself. The short answer is in this particular instance, the painted fabric was painted with a mixture of gesso, acrylic paint and ink stamping. The dyed fabric is a mix of hand dyed silk scarves that didn't turn out well and commercially dyed fabric that is found in fabric stores.
The fabric is glued on top of painted paper. There's not much writing space in it so I added two pockets and journal tags. Which are simply paper that fits in the pocket colored on one side and blank on the backside for journaling.
And a less than steller video! Video and I are not BFFs yet. But I'm sure we will get there before summer is out. Hang in there through this awkward growing stage.
Enjoy.
